What is the VA funding fee in 2026?
It ranges from 0.5% to 3.3% of the loan amount. First-time use with less than 5% down is 2.15%.
Who is exempt from the VA funding fee?
Veterans receiving VA compensation for a service-connected disability (or entitled to it but receiving retirement or active-duty pay instead), active-duty service members with a Purple Heart, surviving spouses receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, and service members with a pre-discharge disability rating.
Can I finance the VA funding fee?
Yes. It can be added to the loan amount, paid in cash, or paid by the seller as part of concessions.
Can I get a refund of the funding fee?
If you are later awarded disability compensation retroactive to before your closing date, you may be eligible for a refund. Contact VA with your loan details.
